About Us

The Noor ul Islam Mosque was founded in 1978 by the Muslim community of Bury. The Mosque initially occupied just one floor of an old run down handbag factory on Yarwood Street. Today the Mosque consists of the entire building aswell as a sister centre, Maqam al Arba’in(Women’s Centre).

Today the mosque caters for the Educational, spiritual and communal needs of the community. With a large young team of volunteers the Mosque takes an open approach to all community issues. Over the years we have built up partnerships with other faith communities to promote harmony in our town.

Members of the mosque through the establishment of the Rumi Centre have carried out pioneering work in the field of interfaith and cultural dialogue. The Rumi Centre provides opportunities such as leadership training, counselling for the young Muslims of Bury and general spiritual guidance to the community. In the field of education the mosque works with local schools to promote the secular sciences in their environment as well as the moral, ethical and spiritual development of young people.

All members of the community are welcome at the mosque regardless of faith to have a look around. See the contacts and interfaith page for further information.
